The façade of this project is defined by large louvers twisting elegantly towards the sky cutting through a sea of reflective glass panels. This wave-like motion pays homage to the client’s background in the shipping industry.

From the street, one can observe the twisting motion of the louvers which naturally brings the attention of the viewers upwards, emphasizing the height and scale of the project. The waves of the façade is carried on in the ceiling design of the lobby through the use of undulating louvers, rising and falling in an almost rhythmic pattern reminiscent of the ocean’s tides.

Clean, classy, and understated are just a few words we’d use to describe this renovation project we completed in 2021.

Through the use of a subdued palette and the repetition of design elements, we were able to create an expansive and peaceful space fit for a young family.

We designed this residence during the pandemic and entirely via zoom meetings. Now it’s finally about to be completed and we can’t wait for it to finally become a home.

Gemütlichkeit in Swiss culture, conveys a sense of warmth, coziness, and a welcoming atmosphere. It is by these principles that we decided to design this house for our clients, a Swiss national and Filipino local.
We decided to take inspiration from the blending of these two cultures and come up with a design that reflected the best of both. The form of the house is simple. Basic volumes are made to appear as if they are floating on top of each other to create a striking yet unassuming silhouette. The complex is divided into 3 main structures; The main residence, the guest house, and the service quarters. All three are laid out to create interesting transitional spaces between them that play with light and shadow.

Inspired by our client’s principles of simplicity and efficiency, the main residence is rectangular in shape with common areas laid out in an open plan on the ground floor, and bedrooms placed on the 2nd floor. This no nonsense approach to planning only reinforces the reason for why one woud be there; to relax and unwind amidst the serenity of the sea.

Taking advantage of the North-facing property, floor-to-ceiling openings envelop each space, creating a panoramic view of the sea and allowing the sea breeze to flow throughout the house. Additionally, this also enables one to hear the waves crashing onto the shore, subtly engaging with you in the background for a truly multi-sensory experience. Local materials take center stage all throughout the house. Whether it’s the thatched roofing, the anapog blocks, or the cocolumber flooring, all these serve to add both character and beauty to the home. Warm, understated, and resilient, these materials imbue the Filipino spirit and hospitality to create a truly relaxing home that engages with its surroundings.
