Uncle Tom’s Cabin Hotel Facade
Location : Capitol Site, Cebu City
Lot Area : 5,000 sq.m.
Client: Phil Macro Development Corporation
The following was a commission to design the facade of a 7-storey building which would serve as both a pension house and dormitory that would cater to the nearby university. However the client had already constructed the building with no facade design in mind. This posed a challenge since we could no longer make a significant impact in the overall design of the building. We decided to tackle this problem by articulating the facade of the building through vertical and horizontal louvers, which was a necessity, in order hide the window type air conditioning units already selected by the client. Also, since the site is accessed through a very narrow interior road, we highlighted this access point through color differentiation, extrusion of the building height, as well as a varying articulation of the louvers that adorn the building. All of which will signify the location of the main entrance of the building, an important factor to consider when design for this typology.
