Alta Vista Rest House

Designed to be the client’s retirement home while also serving as a weekend getaway for the rest of the family, this residence takes a direct and restrained approach to the design. The form is that of a simple stacked rectangle complemented by a series of wood-framed portals along the openings intended to direct one’s gaze to the view. Throughout the majority of the home, the walls are painted in an austere white to create an expansive effect while catering to the client’s desire to create a light, beach-inspired home.

The front facade is intentionally left minimal and protected through the use of privacy screens. This seemingly simple exterior is contrasted upon entry through the main door where one is immediately greeted by the great room and its 4m high ceiling. This vast space creates the perfect environment for family gatherings where the entire clan can come together as one and opens up completely to the outdoor lanai where the activities may further spill over.

In planning this residence we took focus on highlighting the site’s most captivating aspect; the view. In every space within the home this focal point always takes center stage and serves as a reminder to the home’s inhabitants as to why they are there; to relax, unwind, and recharge, all while basking in nature’s splendor.

One of the primary features of this home are the vast outdoor areas that seamlessly blend the indoor and outdoor spaces. These common spaces are designed to entice the client’s ever-growing family to gather together, and by doing so we hope this creates stronger bonds within the family.

The highlight of this area is the generous outdoor lanai placed next to an equally generous infinity lap pool. The adjacency of these spaces allows the entire area to be kept cool through evaporative cooling. To top it all off, the lanai is capped by a retractable pergola that expands and contracts outward along the steel structural frame. This allows the area to be extremely versatile and allows the space to be used regardless of the weather conditions.
